Leaving a Legacy...

Leaving a Legacy...

When it came time to pick a college Hal Reed '71 set his sights on Southwestern, a college with a solid debate team in the late '60s. He developed his enthusiasm for lively discussion while serving on the high school debate team in Wellington, Kan. For Hal, attending Southwestern seemed the most logical choice to develop this passion more fully and turn it into a career.

Upon graduation from SC, Hal continued his education at the University of Kansas-School of Law, and returned to Winfield to practice law for five years. While in Winfield, he served on the college board and as a volunteer with the alumni department. After leaving the Winfield community he pursued a career in trust banking and held positions in Kansas City, Fort Worth, and New Orleans. For the last 14 years, Hal has been working in estate gift fundraising at large state universities and currently is working with the University of Connecticut Foundation.

Hal has been working in the estate gift business long enough to understand the benefits of a well-developed plan. He made the decision to designate Southwestern College in his will for several reasons. It brings him satisfaction to know that he will live on in the future of the college and its students. In addition, although he has supported Southwestern financially during his life, he feels he will be capable of making a larger gift from his estate.
